ISAW presents on its premises Rodin’s Egypt, an exploration of French sculptor Auguste Rodin’s deep fascination with ancient Egypt. The exhibition illuminates how Egyptian art and aesthetics shaped Rodin’s vision—through both the ancient artifacts he collected, and his own sculptures inspired by them.

Celebrated as one of the founding figures of modern European sculpture, Rodin redefined the expressive potential of the human body, While his radical approach broke from neoclassical traditions, Rodin assembled an extraordinary collection of more than one thousand Egyptian objects, acquired through an eclectic circle of dealers, artists, friends, and patrons.

Rodin’s Egypt features over sixty works from this collection, shown alongside Rodin’s own sculptures that reveal his dialogue with the art of ancient Egypt—from the monumental presence of Balzac to the sphinx-like poise of The Succubus.
