Miss Tic: À la vie à l’amor, Art in the city, the poetics of revolt
Manifesto Expo is handling the production of the exhibition Miss Tic: À la vie à l’amor, Art in the city, the poetics of revolt (1985 – 2022) at the Palais des Papes in Avignon.
Palais des Papes, Avignon From June 27, 2024 to January 5, 2025
Though she remained anonymous for a long time, hiding behind the French name of the witch character in Scrooge McDuck’s adventures, Miss.Tic gradually revealed herself over the years, eventually becoming a public figure. Her artistic practice, largely informed by her early years as an actress and performance artist, moves fluidly from the streets to the galleries and from the galleries to the streets. Between these two worlds, the power of words and the studio serve as constant junction points. The exhibition unfolds in three movements along the entire visitor trail of the Palais des Papes. It features over 300 works (photographs, stencils, canvases, palisades, prints, and fragments of posters), chronicling four decades of Miss.Tic’s life and work.
“Intimate and highly political, her work radiates a spirit of revolt. Through the power of words, with a literary and militant aesthetic that is wholly singular, Miss.Tic encourages the viewer to question reality and reach a higher understanding. Whether through a poem or an aphorism, a figure or a signature, her purpose is clear: to be read and recognized by the widest audience; to challenge, provoke critical thinking, and stimulate the imagination. The artist creates her own alphabet, develops her own typography, devises a literary and pictorial language. In her work, poetry is both a tool for resistance and a lens through which to view the city, society, and life itself.”
