For its first collaboration with Tate, Manifesto Expo is working on the tour of the exhibition Turner, The Sun is God to the Fondation Pierre Gianadda (Martigny, Switzerland) that features over a hundred works by William Turner, including some of the artist’s icons. Similarly to the exhibition Turner et les Alpes ("Turner and the Alps"), which the Fondation Pierre Gianadda hosted in 1999, David Blayney Brown has curated the exhibition. The exhibition is presented at the National Gallery of Ireland until February 6th.

The exhibition showcases the influence of Turner’s extensive travels across Britain and continental Europe; his remarkable artwork skillfully reveals his obsession with the fury of nature and its meteorological phenomena. The English painter’s oil paintings, gouaches and watercolors are presented through seven themed sections, all focused on sunlight, a constant in all the painter’s work. The exhibition’s final section is its crowning glory: it focuses on the sun, a key element in Turner’s work. Before his death, the painter is said to have declared that “the sun is God”, considering it “a joyful motif, the most beautiful of beings”. Among other pieces, this section features Going to the Ball (San Martino) and The Visit to the Tomb.

Manifesto Expo has worked with Tate and Fondation Gianadda on the delivery of this project.
