Hector Castells-Matutano, UGC Gobelins and UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy
The UGC Group approached Manifesto to create and manage its first artistic commission, shown on a screen on the façade of the UGC Gobelins building in the 13th arrondissement in Paris, then a second one on the screen at the entrance of the UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy.
Following research on experimental audiovisual practices, Manifesto suggested Hector Castells-Matutano, a young Spanish artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art (London) and sculpts delicate, exhilarating and abstract shapes from still images. His artwork Respirations, a poetic vision within an urban space, has been screened on the Parisian cinema’s external façade and in its foyer since August 2018, providing a visual and emotional experience for passers-by and cinema-goers alike.
Impressed by his artistry, the UGC Group invited Hector Castells-Matutano to revisit his artwork for presentation on a huge screen at the entrance of the UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy (2019), as a frontier between the shopping center and the cinematic world. The artistic video is projected onto a “door” to the building, designed as a series of curves, belvederes and open spaces, from which Claude Lévêque’s Le Chat artwork emerges.
