Claude Lévêque, UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy
Keen to expand on its commitment to creation in an innovative way, the UGC Group asked the internationally renowned artist Claude Lévêque to create a unique work of art in the heart of the new UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy cinéma (2019).
Sometimes, a single look is all it takes. Emerging from a concrete wall, two huge bright blue eyes take the viewer by surprise. It’s impossible to miss!
Born in 1953, Claude Lévêque is one of the most important artists of his generation, both in France and around the world, known for his particularly expressive installations. Building on artwork’s innate ability to create visual, sensual emotions, the artist creates the ultimate “sensory hooks”, most notably through his use of light.
Following his installations for the Louvre and the Opéra de Paris, he created an original work for the UGC Ciné Cité Vélizy called Le Chat (The Cat), a nod to the world of cinema. Guided by the architectural shape, designed by Jean-Marc Lalo as a series of curves, belvederes and open spaces, this is the first artwork created by the artist in a cinema. Manifesto managed the production of the artwork and mediation tools (making-of video, flyers for the young public, press relation, etc.).
