Porte de la Chapelle
Appointed by the City of Paris, Téridéal has enlisted Manifesto to oversee the artistic direction and production, in collaboration with Concepto, for a series of artistic and light installations near Porte de la Chapelle.
As part of the area’s redevelopment, the City of Paris has set to reimagine public lighting and the way the space is experienced by both local residents and visitors. The aim is to work with the artists to co- create a new environment, transforming people’s relationship with the site, while making art more accessible by bringing it into the streets. This also provides the artists with an opportunity to have a real impact on Paris’ urban design and to reclaim traditionally marginalized areas. This project is part of the lead-up to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in an area that will soon be buzzing with activity, including the Stade Arena and Université Condorcet, both set to open next spring.
On this occasion, the City of Paris has commissioned Téridéal, with the support of Concepto, a lighting design agency, and Manifesto, to create an innovative project of art and light installations in the area around Porte de la Chapelle. Concepto is in charge of designing the permanent light installation that will illuminate the ramps of the A1 Autoroute and the Boulevard Périphérique, connecting Porte de la Chapelle to Saint-Denis. Manifesto and Concepto are producing art videos for public spaces, focusing on the themes of body and movement.
Following a call for proposals, a jury composed of elected officials from the City of Paris and the 18 th arrondissement selected ten artists:
- Paul Heintz, Emilie Lor, Côme Lorans, Thomas Merceron, Baptiste Rogers, Côme Rollet-Manus, graduates of the l’École des Arts Décoratifs
- Arnaud Laffond, Juliette Larochette, Seunghyun Park, Julia Piccolo The project will be inaugurated in the fall of 2024.
