Les Lumières Pleyel
Managed by the group represented by Sogelym Dixence, Les Lumières Pleyel – the winner of Inventons la Métropole du Grand Paris (Let’s Invent the City of Greater Paris) – provides Plaine Commune, the recently named Land of culture and creation, with a new, resolutely contemporary, innovative and protean site, devised by Manifesto.
The project will provide 176,000m² for offices, housing, a hotel, student halls, shops and community and sports facilities and a 15,000m² park. The architectural team comprises Snøhetta, Baumschlager Eberle, Chaix & Morel, Ateliers 2/3/4/, Mars Architectes, Maud Caubet and Moreau Kusunoki. The hybrid and modular nature of the facilities – designed with a focus on their usability rather than on sole ownership – are unprecedented at a community level.
To successfully create a lively, creative and contributory neighborhood, Les Lumières Pleyel has come up with a completely innovative concept in terms of urban animation: the “dissemination” of the program of activities throughout the neighborhood.
This objective involves joint development, managed by Manifesto with all its major partners: Approches !, Centquatre-Paris and its incubator 104factory, Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière, l’Ecran, Glaz’art, Lamyne M., Mains d’oeuvres, La Main, FACE/Monte Laster, Mugo, Sport dans la Ville, Wow!Labs, Coopérative Indigo, Etoile Cinémas, Les 3 Saisons de la Plaine, IFPC, le Pôle S, IRI and Maison des Sciences de l’Homme Paris Nord, Labex Arts-H2H and more, for a total of more than 50 cultural, academic, creative and institutional stakeholders.
A company will be set up for this purpose. Known as La Société des Lumières Pleyel, it will be a genuine urban services provider with a steering committee and a dedicated endowment fund. The contributory approach of this project aims to pool resources while encouraging collaborative projects and the sharing of knowledge and skills.
