Study of artistic production in France
On behalf of the French Ministry of Culture, Manifesto produced a study of French artistic production in the visual arts (visual arts, photography, design and other artistic activities related to artistic creation) to provide an overview of the country’s production resources.
For this project, Manifesto drew on its engineering expertise, its experience as an executive producer and its experience in supporting artists as part of POUSH.
Overseen by the General Directorate for Artistic Creation and with the assistance of the Regional Directorates for Cultural Affairs across France, Manifesto Studio developed a methodology for consulting the key players that work with and support artists to produce their artwork (material, logistical and financial support, providing work spaces, sharing expertise, etc.) that was tailored to the project’s schedule. Nearly 200 questionnaires were compiled, some 15 interviews were carried out and a range of studies and data were analyzed.
In addition to producing figures on a variety of public and private structures, the study (released in May 2022) provided an overview of the country’s production resources and ensured a better understanding of the tools, initiatives and stakeholders that are essential to the production of visual arts that reflect contemporary issues.
