Manifesto is co-directing an art and memory trail for the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis.

For several years, the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis has pursued the ambition of creating a network of sites related to resistance and deportation during the Second World War throughout its territory, with educational, pedagogical, and commemorative goals. This ambition has notably taken the form of exhibitions and publications.

Together with its partners, the Department is now working to highlight historical and memorial sites through the launch of a digital portal and the development of an artistic itinerary deployed across five major locations: the Cité de la Muette in Drancy, the Fort of Romainville in Les Lilas, the train stations of Le Bourget-Drancy and Bobigny, and the Quai aux Bestiaux in Pantin.

Entrusted with the artistic direction of this commemorative project, Manifesto and Écouter Pour Voir have invited artist Chemsedine Herriche to design a route composed of light installations, murals, and artistic markers/signage at the various sites that are part of the departmental initiative Mémoires en réseau: Resistance, Shoah, and Deportations in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Through his approach, Chemsedine Herriche explores the ambiguity of the relationship between personal and collective memory and its interpretation. At the crossroads of painting, sculpture, installation, and video, his perception of space and time creates fictions where the tangible and the intangible collide, thus revealing the instability of our spatio-temporal relationship.

An artistic journey created as part of the public art program and the Mémoires en réseau project led by the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis.
