Musée de la Poste
Manifesto is assisting the Musée de la Poste in its reopening, in order to define a clearer, more contemporary and attractive project for the museum’s public, while renewing its ties with the La Poste group.
In 2022, the Musée de la Poste reached a turning point. After six years of closure for the renovation of its exhibition spaces, the reopening was followed by two years of COVID crisis and the expiration of its Scientific and Cultural Project. The museum wished to question and redefine the fundamentals of its positioning. Its goal is to regain and develop its visitorship.
Manifesto assisted the Museum in this process to define a clearer, more contemporary and attractive project for its public, while strengthening its ties with the La Poste group, as the museum of a mission-led company. With the assistance of museographer Laurence Chesneau-Dupin, Manifesto has carried out this mission in two phases. Initially, we conducted an in-depth diagnosis of the Musée de La Poste, an analysis of the variety of museums in Paris and of comparable examples abroad. We also spoke with visitors and organized participatory workshops with the team. We then advocated going resolutely in the direction of a societal museum, rooted in its time and offering a more versatile, participatory and interactive relation to its public.
We drew up three proposals for the museum’s positioning, based on interviews with several figures within the La Poste group and professionals from the museum world. When the Museum’s management chose one of these proposals, we developed a set of recommendations, especially regarding the evolution of the target public, the different ways to adapt the permanent exhibition and the reorientation of the cultural program.
