Manifesto Expo is co-organising the Matisse Metamorfosis. Esculturas y dibujos. exhibition at the Fundación Canal in Madrid with the Musée Matisse of Nice and the Kunsthaus of Zurich.
Fundación Canal, Madrid.
From 22 October 2024 to 11 January 2025
Known as one of the greatest painters of the first half of the twentieth century, Henri Matisse as a sculptor has yet to be discovered. Although painting remains his main mode of expression, Henri Matisse is one of those complete artists whose multifaceted practice explores a variety of media. The exhibition, first shown at the Kunsthaus in Zurich and the Musée Matisse in Nice, and then at MAN Nuoro, takes as its starting point the artist's creative method and his work in transforming the figure through serial variations and formal metamorphoses. The Madrid leg of the exhibition, at the Fundación Canal, brings together an exceptional group of thirty-three sculptures by Matisse, mainly from the collection of the Musée Matisse in Nice, as well as drawings and engravings from public and private collections.
