La Canopée à Argenteuil
Manifesto accompanies the major redevelopment of Argenteuil's Avenue Gabriel Péri, in collaboration with À vrai dire la Ville, led by Ville Ouverte.
The City of Argenteuil, located in the Val d’Oise department, is traversed by Avenue Gabriel Péri, a key gateway to the department from Gennevilliers and one of the entry points to the Greater Paris metropolis. This roadway, a product of 1960s urban planning, is characterized by its mineral landscape, predominant automobile traffic, and congested public space.
In 2023, the City launched a competition to redevelop the avenue. The winning project, designed by the Michel Desvigne agency and titled La Canopée, aims to reintroduce greenery along the avenue and encourage local residents to reclaim the space while promoting the development of sustainable mobility.
To support this major transformation, Manifesto and À Vrai Dire la Ville, led by the contractor Ville Ouverte, carried out a mission focused on public consultation, communication, and project facilitation. Manifesto proposed a strategy of transitional urban planning and an event-driven approach to accompany the renewal of this central axis during the construction period, which will last until 2028.
For this project, after identifying key themes and strategic locations, we developed a typology of artistic and cultural interventions aligned with residents’ needs. We then proposed site-specific transitional actions and established the principles of event programming to accompany the phasing of the works and to preview a greener, calmer, and more vibrant public space.
