Intermix POUSH Residency

Place Paris greater area, France
Date 2023

Manifesto Middle East is supporting the Visual Arts Commission of the Saudi Ministry of Culture in the creation and management of Intermix POUSH Residency.

Launched in 2022 at the initiative of the Saudi Commission for Visual Arts, the Intermix programme is extending beyond Saudi Arabia for the first time, to the heart of one of the major artistic scene in the world: Paris.

This three-month residency aims to support three emerging Saudi artists - Aziz Jamal, Hawazin Al Otaibi and Aseel Alamoudi - and a curator, Ruba Al-Sweel. They are invited to experiment, create and collaborate at POUSH, an artists' and exhibition space that brings together, within a 20,000 m² industrial campus, an emblematic selection of 270 established and emerging artists of more than 40 nationalities, reflecting the vitality of the artistic scene in France.

Intermix POUSH Residency aims to support these four residents in developing their practice and careers on an international scale, by activating and experimenting with new ideas, initiatives, formats and collaborations.

The four resident had the opportunity to meet the POUSH ecosystem, take part in the venue's events and exhibitions, take part in conferences and debates, and benefit from the site's workshops and production tools. They also visited the most prestigious institutions in Greater Paris (museums, art centres, galleries, fairs, etc.) and met the people who make up the art world today, in France and internationally (curators, artists, directors of institutions, gallery owners, collectors, curators, etc.). The residency leads to an exhibition I took a screenshot of the whole world, curated by Ruba Al-Sweel, who invited the three resident artists to present their works created during the residency, alongside works by artists they met during their stay.
