Elliott Causse & Kenia Almaraz Murillo, UGC Ciné Cité Les Halles
Convinced that the cinema is nurtured by all the arts around it, the Groupe UGC asked Manifesto to envision and produce a bespoke artistic commission for the 123 meters of corridors that form the exit of the UGC Ciné Cité Les Halles, the biggest cinema in the world.
Manifesto identified two talented young artists from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris for this unique artistic initiative: Elliott Causse and Kenia Almaraz Murillo. Working alongside Studio Elémentaires, a lighting designer, they created Fluctuations (2018), a labyrinthine artwork that plunges the public into a passage from shadow to light, from fiction to reality. The combination of two different worlds – the guiding stripes in shades inspired by Kenia Almaraz Murillo’s home country and the interweaving, interlocking flow network created by Elliot Causse – gives this artwork a cosmic vibration that remains resolutely rooted in the urban reality that is all around us.
In addition to this 123m mural, Manifesto coordinated the creation of a video (Nano Ville Film), shot on site with original music composed by the duo YEUZ and Dji Oto and screened in the cinema.
