Art & Muse

Client Apsys
Place Metz, France
Date 2017

Apsys, a specialist in retail and entertainment venues, created Muse, a shopping destination that combines art and design within a building designed by the architect Jean-Paul Viguier, just moments from the Centre Pompidou-Metz.

Driven by a desire to provide an artistic, poetic and altogether surprising experience for its clients, Apsys appointed Manifesto and Eva Albarran&Co to design, produce and ensure engagement with an ambitious program of artistic commissions.

Muse wanted to host contemporary creations within its walls, echoing the Centre Pompidou-Metz. Four artists with wildly different backgrounds, including internationally recognized talents and emerging artists, were asked to create artwork for Muse in this cultural city at the crossroads of Europe. Julio Le Parc, a master of kinetic art, created a spectacular mobile: Polyèdre bleu (Blue polyhedron). Chourouk Hriech created Les oiseaux sont mes muses (The birds are my muses), with a total of seven totems, covered with drawings inspired by the architecture of various buildings in Metz. Lionel Estève sculpted a huge collection of 50 polychromatic shapes called Cascade et pirouettes polychromatiques (Polychromatic Cascade and Pirouettes). Romain Froquet painted two large-scale murals entitled Convergence, featuring graphic work created from satellite photographs of the Metz motorway network.

These permanent works of art were unveiled in November 2017.
