Citadelle de Givet
The Fortress of Charlemont, Citadelle de Givet is one of the winners of the “Reinventing Heritage” program. Manifesto is involved in the preparatory phase of the redevelopment project, working alongside Atout France with stakeholders to create a shared vision of the site’s future.
Owned by the Ardennes Rives de Meuse municipal community, the Fortress of Charlemont, Citadelle de Givet, spans some 85 hectares and has been open to the public since 2017. Manifesto carried out an analysis of the site (including the condition of the building, activities and visitors) and the surrounding region in which it is located in order to identify the strengths and challenges of the site and to make it a top destination.
As part of the consultation process, Manifesto drew on these initial observations to organize and lead a workshop for the project’s main stakeholders (elected representatives, representatives from the regional department for cultural affairs, the Grand Est region and the Ardennes department, local tourism et cultural operators, etc.). This workshop was an opportunity to develop a common vision for the site and to agree on a clear position for the redevelopment project.
Manifesto has come up with a concept that’s inspired by the site’s ancient and recent history and its unique geology. Together with an operational roadmap, this unifying concept will provide guidance for the site’s activation in 2022 and its gradual transformation into a heritage site that offers plenty of activities (economic, sporting, cultural) for the Ardennes.
