Caty Olive, Lyon’s Festival of Lights
Manifesto managed the production of the artist Caty Olive’s work for Lyon’s Festival of Lights in 2021.
The driving force behind the project, Manifesto chose Perrine Lacroix, the director of La BF 15, as its artistic commissioner. She worked with lighting designer Caty Olive, whom she supported throughout the creative process. The artist created [AB] géométrie variable, an aerial and immersive work that creates a trail of light on the tree-lined Quai Rolland, visible from the opposite bank of the river. Some thirty delicate light rods are inserted into the trees’ branches; their position depends on the size and shape of each plane tree, thus creating an entirely random geometric design.
This work enters into a dialogue with the sound composition Tout me happe, created by the musician Nosfell.
Manifesto worked closely with local cultural partners on this project, including GRAME, which funded the playing of Nosfell’s composition, 7e Sens, which was responsible for the project’s technical direction, and Arty Farty, with whom Manifesto developed a circular approach, reusing technical elements from an installation for Lyon’s Nuits Sonores.
