Casa Anfa: Cultural masterplan
Make culture one of the defining elements of a new 350-hectare metropolitan neighborhood being developed on the site of the former Casablanca airport.
As part of the transformation of the former Casablanca airport into a new mixed-use neighborhood, the AUDA (ANFA Urbanization and Development Agency) commissioned Manifesto and the CMOOA (Moroccan Company for Works and Objects of Art) to design the cultural master plan for CASA ANFA. Based on an assessment of the site, its built heritage, and its urban dynamics, supplemented by an international benchmark, Manifesto and the CMOOA defined the role of culture in the neighborhood’s development and the conditions necessary for creating a genuine cultural ecosystem on the project’s scale.
In particular, Manifesto focused on the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings, the location and integration of various cultural and creative functions, as well as the principles governing the programming and uses of future venues. This analysis made it possible to develop an overarching framework linking heritage, cultural facilities, creative activities, public spaces, and the neighborhood’s emerging hubs.
Finally, the master plan translated this vision into site-planning scenarios and operational recommendations, incorporating the economic, technical, and programmatic conditions necessary for the development and sustainability of the various cultural projects.
